Hello everybody! Today I did my second
teaching practice and I´m very grateful with God because he gives me strength
to wake up and to do my best. :D This
practice was a little bit better than the first one; however I had to deal with
some unexpected situations that affected the warm up. For example; there were
just 6 students and the half had missed the previous class so they didn´t
understand neither participate too much since the warm up was a review about
the previous topic, “subject and object questions”; I explained them a little
bit but that took more time in the warm up and also a point from my evaluation.
I don´t know why but today there were two lazy students and they didn´t want to
participate even though I pushed them and tried to include them in the class; I
had to find some strategies to ask for another person to participate without
offending them. But at that time I felt good because I realized I´m able to
manage a teenager students group.
I arrived on time!!! I mean at 9:00 a.m
jejeje I thought my tutor would arrive late as always but this time she was
going with me!!!
I started with the warm up: the
students worked in trios. I give them some strip questions; they had to form
the questions and decide if they were subject or object questions. The
questions were a review of subject and object questions but at the same time
they introduce the new topic “present continuous VS be going to.”
Then I pasted a chart with a conversation
on it. There were some students talking while I was reading so I asked them to
be volunteers to read the conversation and they did it. Then, I read it and they listen to, the next time they repeat after me and I asked them if they had new words but they didn´t. Afterward, they
practice it in pairs while I was covering some words and sentences from the conversation;
I just left the sentences I would use to show the grammar part. Then they had
to read the conversation but trying to remember the missing words. It was funny
because they invented the words.
I show the grammar part by taking some
sentences out from the conversation. While explaining I asked them to change
the sentences into negative and questions, orally.
The last activity was a TPR activity. I
divided the class into two groups and they chose a leader. The leaders had to
look at some flashcards and pick the flashcards that better match with the
sentences their groups were reading for them who were 2 meters far from them.
The group that had more pictures was the winner. With this activity I noticed
the students need to improve their listening skill but one more than others.
My feedback was good; I learned that
the way I pronounce “until” is not the correct one!!!
