Ush! Today I felt very sick and my feelings were
down!! I did not want to teach! But I had to.
Since we were coming back from vacations I need the
students remember about what they were studying before going on vacations; I
took advantage on the warm up to brainstorm the different tenses. I used a
tic-tac-toe game; in each square was an affirmative sentence in the third
person singular. The students had to identify the tense in order to ask questions to their classmates. Then they had to write the person´s name that answers YES.
Then, I asked them to work on an underlying exercise
from the appendixes they had. To check the sentences, I started reading the
sentences and everybody complete them with the correct answers.
A listening activity: I introduced the track by
saying about my name and its origin and nicknames as the conversation was about
names. I could notice the students were interested in what I was saying and
they paid attention to the conversation they were listening to. After, I asked
them to take out their books and while they were listening they had to
underline the names they listen to. As post activity, I gave them a piece of
paper in which they had to complete a short table with the information they
remember from the conversation. Finally, I played the conversation again and
they checked their answers by exchanging paper with the person next to them.
Another listening activity was coming! But it was
like a little review about family relationships, just for them to remember and
practice the pronunciation. I prepared the words on pieces of paper and placed
them on the desks. The class was divided into two groups to compete. I explain
what the following track was about. They had to pick up the words they listen
to and the person who had more words in each group was the winner. I played the
track in order to get them familiarized with and had them repeat. I played the
track a second time to start playing. I played it the last time in order to
give others the chance to participate. I had thought about having both winners
competing but the time was competing with me, also.
Finally an oral activity! It was a rotating task.
The students worked in groups and talked about the most common names in El
Salvador, the strangest names in El Salvador and names they would like for
their children. Sheets of paper were given to the students; they had to write
one name per each category. Then, they had to paste it on the wall and take
turns to copy the names from the charts. After that they were telling me the
most common as well as the strangest names they found on their classmates’
charts. They also tell me the names for their children they liked the most.
My objective was achieved in the rotating task.
My feedback was good. As always, the r sounds is the
problem I have to improve.
I made my best effort to teach with enthusiasm even
though the teacher told me that my enthusiasm was down and it should have been
because I was sick. However, it did not help to improve my grade; on the
contrary it affected it
